Study on the Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis in Oriental medicine

Abstract

|
Ulcerative colitis is a diffuse inflammatory disease of mucosal lining of colon. The common symptoms in victom of this disease are diarrhea, mucobloody diarrhea, abdominal pain, tenesmus, and fever. Previous domestic reports show ulcerative colitis getting common in our country. Therefore, a patient suffering mucobloody diarrhea should be discriminated from other colon diseaaes¢¥ victim like crohn¢¥s disease¢¥s one. In detection of Ulcerative proctosigmoiditis, colonoscopic examination is essential. The relapse rate of ulcerative colitis is high and the victim to this disease is suffering general weakness owing to the long-term pain of sickness. Oriental therapeutics takes care of whole body condition, namely Jung -chae(ïÚô÷), not to speak of taking care of the affected region. In this paper, We tried to eximain the oriental therapeutics to ulcerative colitis and find the more effective way of treating this disease. Oriental medicine recognized ulcerative colitis as "Lee-Jil(ì¸òð)" - ¢¥Sul-Sa(àÜÞá)" "Jang-Baek(À庮)", and the cause as mostly "pathogenic heat and moisture in colon(ÓÞíóã¥æð)"¡¤"weakness of spleen(Þ¡úÈ)"¡¤"weakness of kidney(ãìúÈ)". In Oriental medicine, physician demonstrates this disease on the base of oriental medicine theory , and give medicine and acupuncture.
Specialized-adminstration is composed on the oriental medicine theory and western medical imfomation. Reports show Specialized-adminstration(îöÛ°) more effective than demonstrated-adminstration. In Acupucture therapy, ST36(ðëß²×ì), ST25(ô¸õÒ), CV4(μêª), BL23(ãìêä), BL20(Þ¡êä) are secected in common. Recently, retention enema is carried out for the purpose of elevatirg the remedical value. Retention enema imporve pathologic abnormality in the affected region. In addition, a few other ways of treatment are attempted and reported valuable.
